SMS Messaging & Consent

    Effective Date: June 1, 2026

FamilyCheck, operated by MODEO LLC, sends SMS text messages as part of its medication-reminder service. This page explains exactly what we send, how you opt in, and how to opt out.

    What messages we send

    • Patients: medication reminders at scheduled times and brief follow-ups (e.g. "Reply YES once you've taken it, NOT YET to snooze, or SKIP to skip this dose").
    • Caregivers: outcome and alert texts about their loved one's medication check-ins (confirmed, missed, or a health concern).

Message frequency varies, typically about 1–3 messages per day. Message and data rates may apply.

    How you opt in

Every recipient opts in for themselves before we send any recurring messages. The full flow:

    1. Caregiver consent (optional). A caregiver creates an account at family-checker.com and may opt in to receive SMS alerts at their own number. SMS is optional — caregivers always receive email summaries either way, so agreeing to texts is never required to use FamilyCheck.
    2. Caregiver authorization. When adding a patient, the caregiver confirms they are authorized to provide the patient's phone number. The caregiver does not consent on the patient's behalf — the patient always gives their own consent next.
    3. Patient signs their own agreement. The caregiver sends the patient a private link (or a short code they can enter at family-checker.com/start). The patient reads the FamilyCheck agreement on their own device and signs it by typing their name. Text messages are a separate, optional box that starts unticked, using the exact wording below — a patient may agree to the reminder calls and decline the texts, and in that case we never text them. We store the date, time, the exact wording they were shown, and their choices. This consent is never shared with third parties.
    4. Patient confirmation text. Only if the patient ticked the text box, we send a one-time confirmation text so they know reminders have started. No separate reply is needed — and they can reply STOP at any time to stop all messages.

Patient text opt-in — the exact wording

On the agreement the patient signs, the text-message box is optional and starts unticked. It carries this wording, word for word:

"We'd also like to send you text-message reminders at this number - about 1 to 3 texts a day. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply STOP at any time to stop the texts, or HELP for help. Our full terms are at family-checker.com/sms-consent. Agreeing to texts is not required to use FamilyCheck."

Text messages begin only if the patient ticks that box themselves. Leaving it unticked changes nothing else about the service — they still get their reminder calls. Each consent is stored as that patient's own opt-in record, with the date, the time, and the exact wording they were shown.

    The one-time confirmation text reads:

FamilyCheck: Hi [Name], you're all set to get your medication reminders here. Msg frequency varies (~1-3/day). Msg & data rates may apply. We only ask about your medications - never for money or personal info. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Terms: family-checker.com/sms-consent

How to opt out or get help

You can reply STOP to any FamilyCheck text at any time to stop all messages, and reply HELP for help. Caregivers can also pause or remove a patient from their dashboard, or contact us at [email protected].
